Weather Resistant Barriers in Vertical Exterior - Construction (BSP721_23)
Course Description:
This one-hour course provides an overview of the importance of weather resistant barriers in protecting the building envelope and as a component of green building design and sustainability. Lessons include a comparison of various barriers based on specific performance criteria.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain how the use of a weather resistant barrier improves the exterior wall by: acting as a thermal barrier to enhance the reduction of energy consumption, and reducing bulk water and solar driven moisture from entering the wall cavity while allowing the wall to breathe
- Discuss how weather resistant barriers protect the wall cavity when using today’s cladding materials and provide a sustainable interior finish Identify the correct procedures for installing weather resistant barriers to protect the exterior wall and provide a sustainable wall cavity
- Be able to specify weather resistant barriers based on performance criteria
- Compare Spun-bonded poly-propylene with micro-porous coating to other weather resistant barriers and identify the four categories that promote sustainable design
