Acoustical Ceilings for the Eye, the Ear and the Mind (CTL12_3_1)
Course Description:
This course provides an overview of the principals of sound attenuation and light reflectance. Learners will be introduced to subjects such as, the Noise reduction coefficient. Further discussion will introduce the main properties of acoustical ceilings, their function and performance.
Learning Objectives:
- Review the basis of classification for the 15 different acoustical ceiling product types and discuss possible selection criteria.
- Learn how to properly calculate common acoustical measures including the noise reduction coefficient (NRC) and frequency and understand what the calculation means for the sound quality in the room and why similar NRC numbers can have very different meanings.
- Learn what is meant by Ceiling Attenuation Class (CAC); understand how to properly address sound containment and review the effectiveness of common material options.
- Understand how ceiling selection effects the light reflectance in a space, review possible material options and discuss how they will affect the light diffusion in the room.
- Review environmental certifications available in ceiling design, what is meant by each and how various types of classifications are determined
