Durability: Abuse and Impact Wall Assemblies (GYP24_4)
Course Description:
Durability is thought of in terms of time. However, durability in design and construction encompasses several ideas: quality, performance, safety, sustainable. The discussion is usually around the building envelope and avoiding failures. The same attention given to the exterior of the building needs to be applied to the interior, as well.
This course address durability, abuse, and impact for interior spaces. Focusing on gypsum wall assemblies, the course will review applicable ASTMs and test methods. In the discussion, there will be a review of available products and how to compare the differences among manufacturers. It will also examine the best way to specify abuse and impact drywall and accessories that add to the durability of the wall assembly.
