Moisture Management and Residential Facade Design (BSS75_23)
Course Description:
Residential homes are often built with multiple cladding types - masonry, vinyl siding and more. This course will review the fundamentals of moisture flow and detail how that moisture interacts with different cladding materials. At the end of this course, attendees should understand the advantages and disadvantages of various wall claddings and feel confident specifying an assembly that is best for the homeowner.
Learning Objectives:
- Review the basic functions of the building envelope.
- Understand the fundamentals of moisture flow, air flow and heat flow. Explore common building envelope design mistakes that don't account for moisture, air and heat.
- Detail how moisture storage varies by material & system. Explain the mechanisms by which materials “wet†and dry.
- Understand the advantages and disadvantages of various kinds of residential wall claddings. Evaluate the claddings in terms of moisture control and durability
