Sustainable Office Design from Multiple Viewpoints (BSS73)
Course Description:
This course offers a glimpse of the integrated design process associated with CertainTeed and Saint Gobain North America’s new US headquarters. The discussion will explore client requirements, including internally defined energy reduction goals and external rating systems. Specific design challenges, including product selection, cost and associated tradeoffs intended to reduce energy consumption will be addressed. Acoustic & occupant comfort will be discussed, as well as how Saint Gobain has utilized a Change Management program to involve the most important part of the new office – the employees.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe site, limitations, history and conditions. Provide context for how local and regional seating informed decisions beyond product selection.
- Explore client requirements – including internally defined energy reduction goals and external rating systems (LEED, etc).
- Discuss specific design challenges, including cost and associated tradeoffs, intended to reduce energy consumption. Identify specific design elements intended to improve IEQ- acoustics, air quality, and natural day-lighting
- Consider challenges of open office plan vs. goal oriented benefits and how Change Management was incorporated into the transition.
