Course Description:
This program guides the participant in an integrated approach, helping them to develop a plan in which systems and materials work together. Learning Objectives:
- Describe the exterior wall system, and its importance for the house and its occupants
- Describe the roles of airflow retarders and vapor diffusion retarders in the control of moisture flow through the exterior wall system
- Describe four kinds of insulation, and explain some of the factors that enable insulation to perform optimally in the exterior wall system
- Discuss four kinds of framing materials and two kinds of sheathing materials in terms of their effect on the exterior wall system
- Describe how window performance is measured and enhanced
- Explain the importance of caulking, flashing, and gaskets and some of the roles they play in the exterior wall system
